Friends of Football,

The Bulldog will be featuring plenty of great football this third weekend of May, including a home fixture on Sunday for our Colorado Rapids, and the conclusion of the 2010/11 English Premier League season.  The action starts Saturday morning (Bulldog will open at 10am) with La Liga Champions Barcelona facing Malaga in their last league fixture of the season.  Look for a young side here, as Barca are sure to rest their stars for next weeks Champions League Final.  At noon we have Real Madrid playing in their final match of the campaign, as they host Almeria at the Santiago Bernabeau.  This game leads us into the German Cup Final (12:30pm), where Schalke 04 face second division side Duisburg.  Schalke has had a strange season, making a strong run in both the Champions League and the German Cup, while finishing a dismal fourteenth in the Bundesliga.  It would be a dagger in their heart to lose to their second division neighbors here in the Cup Final.  A berth in the Europa League will be the reward to the winner of this Final.  Major League Soccer takes center stage Saturday evening, as we have a bundle of matches on tap.  The highlight matches of the night will be the Eastern Conference battle between Houston and the New York Red Bulls (6:30pm), and the Los Angeles Derby between Chivas and the L.A. Galaxy

Sunday morning is the conclusion of the EPL campaign, and the relegation battle will be the focus of our attention.  We will carry all three (of the four) matches that will play a part in deciding which Clubs stay up for the 2011/12 campaign, and who will be relegated to the Championship next season.  There are five clubs that could potentially drop from the Premiership on this final day, Blackpool (39pts), Wolverhampton (40pts), Birmingham (39pts), Wigan (39pts) and Blackburn (40pts).  Wolves and Blackburn face each other, and a tie will do neither team much good.  An outright win for either club, and it guarantees they will remain in the top flight.  Blackpool takes on the 2010/11 EPL Champions, Manchester United, away from home.  It will be a daunting task for them to get the win they need at Old Trafford; however, Man U. will be resting many of their stars in anticipation of the Champions League Final next week.  Birmingham face a Tottenham Hotspur side that needs a win to ensure they book a spot in the Europa league.  This doesnt bode well for a Birmingham team that has been struggling of late.   Last but not least, Wigan travel to Stoke to face the resilient Potters.  Stoke are tough at home, and will want to finish strong after their two defeats to Man City this past week.  It doesnt matter who you support, make your way down to the Bulldog to enjoy the final day drama of the EPL. (If your team isnt listed bring in your computer and we can stream the match.)

Once the dust settles from the relegation fight, we turn our attention to our hometown boys the Colorado Rapids.  Despite numerous injuries to their starting forwards, the Rapids managed to come off a three game road trip with five points.  They return home to face Toronto FC, with a 5pm Sunday afternoon kickoff.  The team will be hungry for three points at home, and will need our support from the Terrace.  Those of you that are at the Bulldog for the early games should plan on sticking around to join us for the tailgate/bus trip up to DSG Park.  The bus departs the pub at 1:30pm, and reservations can be made at www.bulldogsupporters.com .

One week from Saturday (May 28th) the Red Devils of Manchester will face the Blaugrana of Barcelona in the Champions League Final, and the Bulldog is planning a street party to celebrate the big game.  We will be closing off the parking lane and sidewalk in front of the Pub, putting up some outdoor TVs, and serving cold beer on the extended patio.  In addition to featuring the biggest match in Europe, we will also be hosting a pre-party for the Rapids match that evening versus Sporting Kansas City.  Buses will be leaving from the Pub to shuttle fans up to the match, so plan on sticking around to support your local club ( Bus Reservations can be made at www.bulldogsupporters.com ).  This is sure to be an epic day of football and fun!
