     2011 is nearly gone, and there is somequality football on the weekend to ring in the New Year!  Friday lunchtimebrings us a top tier fixture, as Liverpoolhost Newcastle atAnfield.  Liverpool sits 6th in the table, while Newcastle isnipping at their heels in 7th.  Both sides will be keen to stay inthe race for the coveted Champions League position.    


     New years Evestarts early (5:45am) with defendingChampions Manchester United pitted against EPL bottom dwellers Blackburn. The Red Devils are riding high after a streak of very positive results,while Blackburn cling to a glimmer of hope after obtaining a draw againstLiverpool on Boxing Day.  Chelseaand Arsenal fill the 8amslot against their respective opponents, and the rest of the morning is filledwith tape delayed matches.


     The first day of the New Year kicksthings off bright and early with West Bromfacing Everton at 5:30am. WBA are coming off a great result, holding League Leaders Man Cityto a draw on Boxing Day.  Everton are undefeated in their last threematches, and will soon be bolstered by the arrival of American talisman LandonDonavan.  Sunderland host Manchester City in the 8am slot, and will be lucky to get anything from a City sidethat was stung by the Albion last week.  


     The football continues on Monday of nextweek with a full schedule of matches to enjoy.  The pub will be open at 8am, featuring Wolves v Chelseaand Villa v Swansea. At 10:30am Fulham hostsArsenal in a London Derby, followed by a lunchtime kickoff for QPRand Norwich. 


     Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime we haveplenty of good football scheduled, with the highlight being Manchester Cityv Liverpool on Tuesday, and Newcastle v Manchester United onWednesday.  


On theHorizon


     Next weekend the FA Cup returns withThird round action on both Saturday and Sunday.  Manchester City will faceManchester United Sunday morning at 8amin what will surely be a clash to remember.  The Copa Del Rey round of 16starts midweek next week, and La Liga and Serie A resume action on the upcomingweekend.
