Feature Matches
There is plenty of great football on tap at the Lions each and every day this week. Tuesday and Wednesday are full of Champions League action, as European sides battle for a spot in the group stages, while on the domestic front MLS sides begin their CONCACAF Champions League campaign. Representing the MLS in our regional Champions League we have the Houston Dynamo,Seattle Sounders, Real Salt Lake, Toronto F.C. and the L.A. Galaxy. In addition to these great matches we have an EPL lunchtime clash between Chelsea and Reading on Wednesday afternoon. Chelsea are off to a good start with a 2-0 win over Wigan on the weekend, while Reading managed a draw at home against Stoke. The Blues new acquisition, Eden Hazard, got off to a terrific start in his EPL career with two assists on the weekend. He is one of many new talented players that have joined the league over the Summer transfer window.
Thursday afternoon brings us the first Spanish Clasico of the year, as Barcelona face Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup. The Super Cup is a home and away series, with silverware at stake for the winner. Barcelona earned a spot by winning the Copa Del Rey, while Madrid is in the Cup from taking the La Liga title last year. Over the last few years the rivalry between these two clubs has been off the charts, and this will be their first meeting of the 2012/13 campaign. Last year the Super Cup ended in high drama, as multiple players were ejected after a huge brawl (follow this link for a recent history and preview of this highly anticipated two game series:,0,4434581.story ). The Lions should be rocking for this one, and we will be serving Fish & Chips as our lunch special ($7.50) all afternoon.
Weekend football kicks off Friday at lunchtime with the first match of the Bundesliga season. Defending Champions, Borussia Dortmund, take on Werder Bremen to kick off the defense of their title. Saturday morning starts early (5:45am) as West Ham travel to Swansea in an EPL clash, followed by Manchester United v Fulham and Tottenham v West Brom. Both United and the Spurs will be looking for their first win, while the Cottagers and the Baggies have already racked up three points a piece. Saturdays EPL match of the day has Chelsea hosting Newcastle, with a 10:30am kickoff. Judging by the dog fight these two clubs were in for a spot in Europe last year, this should be a very entertaining match. The afternoon and evening are full of MLS action, culminating with ourColorado Rapids taking on Western Conference leadersSan Jose at 8:30pm. The Pub is hosting an away game viewing party, with $3.50 20oz Coors Lights and $5.50 20oz Carlsbergs on special!
Sunday morning has Stoke City hosting Arsenal in the early slot (6:30am), followed by our EPL match of the week. Kicking off at 9am Liverpool host defending Champions Manchester City, in a match that will be featured throughout the entire Pub. The Reds are off to a poor start, and they will have their work cut out for them, as they are facing a very tough stretch in their next three matches. Points here at home against City would be precious for them. City conceded two goals against freshly promoted Southampton last week, in a match that should not have been so tough for them. Theyll be hoping to put in a better defensive performance against the Reds in the unfriendly confines of Anfield. Citys record on the road last season left something to be desired, so perhaps they will be vulnerable here. Sunday wraps up with two great La Liga fixtures, and a couple of good MLS fixtures. Dont forget about our traditional Sunday Roast (seasoned slow roasted beef with roasted vegetables, potatoes, and gravy) for only $9.99 to compliment our Sunday football lineup!
On the Horizon
Real Madrid host Barcelona in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup Wednesday afternoon, ourColorado Rapids have a Friday night primetime clash with Portland, andLiverpool host Arsenal early Sunday morning in the EPL match of the week!
