Feature Matches
Quite a few big clashes this week, with two Clasico's on tap, the U.S. U-20's in a do or die with Canada, the kick off of the 2013 MLS season, and a Sunday morning London derby! This afternoon at 1pm, Barcelona and Real Madrid meet in the second leg of the Copa Del Rey Semifinal. The score is tied 1-1 on aggregate, and one of these two giants will be eliminated from the competition at the end of the day. Madrid know this is their only hope at domestic silverware this season, as they trail Barca by a substantial margin in La Liga. Barcelona may be vulnerable, having conceded a goal in each of their last eleven matches, and coming off two rough performances in the past week. Camp Nou is a fortress though, and their record of 18 wins and 4 draws in their last 22 at home will give Madrid something to think about. If it wasn't enough for these two sides to meet in the Copa Del Rey Semi, they will face each other again early Saturday morning in league play. Barca has a comfortable lead in points, but Madrid are in a dogfight with crosstown rivals Atletico for second place. This fixture is at the Bernabeau, which bodes well for CR7 and the Madristas.
One hour after the conclusion of today's Clasico the USA U-20's take on Canada, with a berth in next years U-20 World Cup on the line. Coach Tab Ramos feels his team is up to the challenge, despite having lost to Canada last year in Spain, and also in Olympic qualifying. Rapids player Shane O'Neill will feature in the match, before rejoining his teammates here in Colorado for the MLS season.
The 2013 MLS Season kicks off on Saturday afternoon, and Three Lions is set to feature all the action in our domestic league! Our Colorado Rapids travel to Dallas to begin their 2013 Campaign, with a 6:30pm kick off. The Lion's will be hosting an away game viewing party, with the beginning of the match falling into our Happy Hour, and specials on Coors Light and Carlsberg throughout. Rapids Captain Pablo Mastroeni will be making his return to first team football, after missing the bulk of 2012. This will add much needed stability and experience to a midfield that struggled without him last season. The new look Rapids have plenty of strength and experience in their defence and midfield, and will be banking on youth up front to bring the goals. Expect more out of Oscar Pareja's 2013 squad, and get on board to support your hometown Club, as they look to return to the playoffs!
Sunday morning the Lion's will be featuring a London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal, with big implications for Champions League qualification on the line. Gareth Bale is the man in form in the EPL right now, and Spurs will be formidable on their home ground. The Gunners are well aware of what it means if they drop points to their rivals here, and this match will surely be an outright battle!
On the Horizon
Champions League second leg matches feature on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the highlight fixture pitting Manchester United at home against Real Madrid. It's Club and Cup football on the weekend, and our first home game of the 2013 campaign for the Colorado Rapids!

America Scores Denver: The Three Lions is very proud to support our local chapter of America Scores. America Scores Denver is a recreationally-linked education program dedicated to translating the values of leadership, teamwork and communication to over 300 at-risk young girls and boys in west Denver. We do this by providing physical activities through the sport of soccer, and literacy lessons through creative writing, every day after school in ten public elementary schools. Soccer, poetry and service-learning activities are used as tools to emphasize good decision-making, discipline and positive self-expression. If you are interested in helping out, be it through a donation, or volunteering your time and coaching or writing expertise, please follow these links: ,
Inspired Art: America Scores Denver and local artists are coming together to bring children's poetry to life. Local artists will be creating and donating original works, drawing their inspiration from poetry written by 3rd through 5th grade students of America Scores Denver, to benefit the children in the program. The event is being held April 11th, 2013 in Denver's art district on Santa Fe Blvd at the Artwork Network. Please follow this link to purchase tickets for this great benefit event:
