Feature Matches

The Colorado Rapids are eight points adrift of the sixth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, with only ten matches remaining in the regular season. They have two games in hand on the sixth place Club (Seattle), leaving a glimmer of hope they can pull themselves off the bottom of the table to put up a fight for the postseason. That means this week's two Western Conference home fixtures are absolutely critical to the Rapids! Wednesday night they take on the Houston Dynamo, before facing Sporting K.C. on Saturday night. Houston sit five points clear of the Rapids, having played one more match than Colorado. Sporting K.C. are one of the elite Western Conference sides, sitting on forty points with only twenty four matches played. A win against the Sky Blue on Saturday night would be epic, however unlikely it may seem. Colorado arguably has one of the better goaltenders in the league, and a decent defense, but when it comes to offense there has been little or nothing to get excited about in 2015. If they don't win both of these home fixtures, the rest of the campaign will be an experiment to try and sort out a sputtering offense before 2016. As always the Rapids Supporters Groups will be running shuttles to and from the Pub on match day, so if you want to make it a party regardless of the result, then hop on board!

In Europe the Champions League Qualification matches are wrapping up mid week. Tuesday afternoon features Swedish side Malmo against Celtic, with Celtic holding a narrow 3-2 aggregate advantage. Things get tricky with the away goal rule though, as Malmo managed two strikes on their visit to Scotland. Wednesday's other action has Monaco v Valencia and Shakhtar v Wein. Wednesday we focus on Manchester United's attempt to qualify for the Champions League Group Stage. They face Club Brugge in the second leg, holding a 3-1 aggregate advantage. Lazio are defending a 1-0 advantage over Bayer Leverkusen, and Sporting hold a 2-1 aggregate advantage over CSKA Moscow going into the second leg.

Saturday morning kicks off early with Newcastle hosting Arsenal. The Geordies are winless in three games, but have managed two draws, and could be dangerous at home. The Gunners are off to a less than spectacular start, going 1-1-1 in their first three. This should be a great match to kick the day off, before we see a myriad of matches at 8am, and then our match of the day between Tottenham and Everton kicking off at 10:30am! Saturday afternoon we switch gears to La Liga, with Barcelona taking on Malaga, before Real Madrid battle Real Betis! The evening is full of MLS fixtures, including our critical home match against SKC!

We finish the weekend with an early EPL start for Southampton and Norwich, before Swansea host Manchester United. At 10am, Serie A rivals Roma and Juventus meet in what should be a great fixture! This is followed by Atletico Madrid facing Sevilla in La Liga, before we finish the day with two terrific MLS fixtures. Seattle battle Portland in a Cascadia Cup Derby match at 3pm, before the two top teams in the East, the New York Red Bulls and D.C. United meet!

On the Horizon

Next week we have an International window, with Euro 2016 Qualifiers, World Cup Qualifiers, and International Friendlies. The USMNT face Peru on Friday night, kicking off at 5pm.
